Thank goodness for youtube, which acts as a memory keeper for many things that there is a recorded copy of on video. Yesterday I watched Cindy Crawford's "Shape Your Body" workout video from 1992 on youtube. This is an hour and thirty-eight minute workout. Normally, this would turn me off completely but I'm immediately drawn in by extremely quick shots of Cindy Crawford stretching on a beach in a black one-piece. All of her workout outfits are great in this, she wears 3 total, the black swimsuit plus there's a cute white sports bra/black gym shorts outfit and a high-cut white leotard worn over black leggings. My favorite is the sports bra/gym shorts look because Cindy is rocking the messy bun look here and she's in a deserted warehouse. She's on the rooftop of the warehouse building in I think New York City in the third location. She's got a nice, sturdy wooden chair in 2/3 sets. She left her big chair at home for the beach shoot. In the warehouse it's shot in B&W (probably not enough lightbulbs down there), the other 2 are in color. The soundtrack has Chris Isaak, Van Halen, and Seal, or at least music reminiscent of those artists. Sometimes in the warehouse scenes the lighting switches to a blue light, which reminds me of Sex, Lies, and Videotape.
Cindy starts off this workout stating "It's important the first time you watch this to watch the whole thing through before you start actually doing the exercises"....!!!!! That's a big ask, Cindy. However she may be on to something because I do get tiring just looking at her. The impression I get from this video is that she doesn't actually work out. I feel like I'm going to hurt my knees and/or throw my hip out of socket because it feels like there are 100 reps per move and the motions seem hyperextended. I can't swing my legs up that high! My arms hurt when I swing them up over my head using momentum. She also says "girl pushups" (because Cindy can't do boy pushups, but "if you can do them, you can!"). Also, Cindy is not alone...she's got a Svengali with her. He looks to be about 5'4'' and is wearing a t-shirt that says "RADU". That may be his name. Overall, I appreciate the video as a time capsule of early 90s style, but the workout did not seem to shape my body.
The classic black suit on the beach, gotta stretch those abdominals & buttocks!
My favorite outfit in the dark warehouse! With the big, wooden chair!
The chair's on the roof!
Meet RADU
